Main conclusion from NOC: we do not need FTTH

During this week I have not posted because I was at a conference in Valladolid (Conference on Networks and Optical Communications). It was a research conference but there were some interesting talks about vendors and operators.

I will not discuss the technical conferences, which were on optical transmission, future MAC protocols, radio over fiber… because it is not the scope of the blog.

However, it was very interesting to hear the position of Telefonica regarding the deployment of FTTH. They say that they are not deploying FTTH because the customer does not require that amount of bandwidth… We have enough with our very nice 6Mb down / 320kn up ADSL…

I understand this is the political position of Telefonica regarding the deployment of fiber infrastructure because I can not see any technician saying that… Anyway, we all know who are the ones that take the decisions and the technicians are not…
